Job description

​We are currently working with a High-End design practice based in the Chelsea area who are now looking to acquire the services of a Furniture Designer to join their team and support the business. This role will involve developing and implementing concepts in projects and overseeing the design process from start to finish. The ideal candidate will be someone who has done this role previously for a high-end design company or equivalent and is proficient in using AutoCAD, special coordination and furniture layout with a good appreciation of drawing standards.

The Role

  • To ensure the delivery and implementation of concepts throughout the project, including the origination and proposals of concepts where appropriate.

  • To use AutoCAD for designing furniture, bearing in mind layouts and spatial coordination.

  • To be responsible for the production and management of F&F drawings including custom furniture items, integrated joinery and cabinetry packages, custom upholstery pieces and custom lighting.

  • To be responsible for the coordination of furniture items where required, e.g. Small power and scheme integration.

  • To be responsible for producing individual packages of works and design detailing, including liaison with makers and workshop visits for item progress reviews and sign-off.

  • To be responsible for the procurement programme and budget management of specific scope within a project, and coordination with the relevant team members/ logistics manager/ project director.

  • To coordinate with external parties such as the executive architect, lighting/ AV consultants and Client teams to ensure detailed implementation across specific furniture items if necessary.

  • To oversee the installation of the individual package of works and visit the site where necessary.

  • To implement post-project completion snagging record of and tracking of timely remedial works.

  • To install documentation associated with the individual package of works.

The Candidate

  • Previous experience working as a furniture designer for a high-end design practice is essential.

  • Proficient AutoCAD use, well-considered spatial coordination and furniture layout, and an appreciation of drawing standards are essential.

  • Strong work ethic.

  • Good communication skills when it comes to speaking both internally and to clients.
